New eCOGRA Certification for Safe and Fair Online Gambling

eCOGRA awards highest ISO/IEC 27001 Certification to Kindred Group and PAF.

For many years, eCOGRA has set the standard for iGaming certification. Any website bearing the eCOGRA seal of accreditation was considered to have met and maintained the highest standards in safe and fair online gambling practices. Now, eCOGRA’s certification standards offer a new level banner-bearing integrity for operators that’s promoting the highest level of accreditation ever imagined.

The industry’s oldest and most respected iGaming software testing lab is now offering a new certification seal known as ISO/IEC 27001. It is an information security management standard that’s already gained international recognition for meeting the strict guidelines of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

eCOGRA is encouraging operators to review their systems and apply for this new certification standard, as they point to evidence suggesting it may soon be a requirement of Europe’s most respected remote gambling jurisdictions. Already, the auditor notes, several jurisdictions, including Czech Republic, Denmark, Great Britain, Portugal, Romaniam, Spain and Sweden, are waiving certain security auditing requirements for any licensed operator that bears the latest seal.

What does ISO/IEC 27001 Certification mean?

ECOGRA describes the new “27001” cert as having the following benefits:

• A demonstration of trust and credibility to players and other stakeholders, that sensitive information is appropriately secured and managed in accordance with an internationally recognised standard;
• Cost savings and reputational protection through reduction in security incidents;
• Improvement of an organisation’s ability to recover from disasters and continue business as usual;
• The implementation of a management system that assists in identifying information security risks consistently and proactively, and mechanisms to manage or reduce these risks;
• An appropriate internal control environment for sustaining and supporting organisational growth;
• Creating a business differentiator (competitive advantage) over similar organisations in the industry;
• Provision of significant third-party attestation that an organisation has successfully structured its processes into a management system that ensures confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information assets pursuant to the requirements of regulators, applicable laws and business needs; and
• Augmentation of management confidence in the information security arrangements.

Kindred Group and PAF Awarded New eCOGRA Seal

On July 17, 2019, eCOGRA issued a press release announcing that Penningautomatförening (aka PAF) and Kindred Group (formerly Unibet), have been awarded the latest and greatest stamp of accreditation, known officially as ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standards for Information Security Management Systems.

The announcement states:

“This certification now places Paf and Kindred Group amongst a limited number of online gambling organisations that have achieved this prestigious certification, demonstrating their commitment to protecting the security of their customers’ and other stakeholders’ data.”

PAF is a Finnish operator of land-based and online casinos dating back to 1966. It is based on the Åland Islands, owned by the government of Åland, and operating for the betterment of the local population. As such, PAF’s operations have always been geared heavily towards social responsibility, twice winning an award from eGaming Review for being the most socially responsible gaming company.

Kindred Group is the owner and operator of nearly a dozen online casino, poker, bingo and sports betting denizens, including those of its former namesake, Unibet. Sustainability has long been among their top priorities, making the reception of ISO/IEC 27001 Certification all the more important.
