Barstool was a bit late to the betting game in Pennsylvania, launching in September of 2020, but the anticipation was high enough to attract a lot of curious bettors upon arrival. However, that arrival also coincided with controversy over some of its commentators ‘comedic material’, which may have truncated its potential in the Keystone State. Popularity aside, the Barstool Sportsbook website offers only a mid-size assortment of sports line categories, but no online casino content. Furthermore, its mobile app, Barstool Bets, does not offer real-money betting, but rather “free-to-enter contests”.

BetRivers is one of two PA online casinos owned by SugarHouse HSP Gaming; the other being its namesake SugarHouse Online Casino. Situated along the Delaware River, it is one of PA’s most heavily trafficked casinos. Their partnership with Rush Street Interactive gives members of the online casino a diverse selection of 180+ digital gaming choices; everything from classic and progressive slot machines, to card and table games, to video poker and virtual sports.  At least two dozen sports categories appear in the sportsbook, including their own promoted list of daily ‘house specials’, and a weekly $500,000 Pennsylvania Pick’Em contest. BetMGM is the interactive wing of the world-famous MGM Resorts casino corporation. Its operator, Roar Digital, partnered with a trio of land-based operations in order to provide a wide arrangement of live casino, online casino and sports betting options in PA. Those partners include Rush Street Gaming’s Rivers Philadelphia and SugarHouse New Jersey, and Caesars-owned Hollywood Casino. All told, the collective gaming portals offer customers more than 200 online casino games, and 22 different sports categories to bet on.

Harrah’s Philadelphia chose to market its online casino under the legendary Caesars brand, perhaps the most recognizable name in the North American gambling industry. The land-based casino and racetrack expanded into sports betting in January 2019, followed by interactive gaming in April 2020. The online casino features the absolute largest selection of interactive games to date in PA;  260+ slots, 28 card and table games, 19 video poker machines, and 20+ specialty games, like scratch cards, slingo and virtual sports. In April 2020, DraftKings received approval from the PGCB to use Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino license, issued in mid-2019, to provide both casino and sports wagering in PA. The partnership resulted in the launch of a DraftKings Sportsbook & Casino. On the plus side, users gain access to a versatile selection of casino games, plus traditional and fantasy sports betting. The caveat is that you must download the mobile app, for Android or iOS, to play. The traditional website only details what’s available, eventually directing users to download the app sign up, login and play. Valley Forge Casino Resort partnered with FandDuel, who partnered with Betfair, to bring to Pennsylvania a tried and true iGaming platform that combines the popularity of multi-channel sports wagering with the thrill of online casino gaming. The sportsbook side of the operation presents betting on traditional sports, daily fantasy sports, as well as horse racing. The casino is a bit harder to access. Clicking through the Fanduel website take you to the Betfair Casino website for New Jersey, which – if you dig through the FAQs long enough – states that PA players must download the Fanduel Casino or Fanduel Sportsbooks app to access the casino games. FoxBet joined Mt Airy Casino and TSG Interactive, operator of the interactive PokerStars and PokerStars Casino offerings, to provide PA sports fans with a recognized brand for their bookmaking needs.  Although the companies are all working in conjunction, the FoxBet domain is separate from that of its iGaming partners. Penn National Gaming was quick to market with Hollywood Online Casino, the virtual edition of its physical Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in in Grantville, just north of the world-famous Hershey, PA. The stand-alone internet casino presents users with more than 135 slot machines, video pokers, and standard table games of like blackjack, baccarat and roulette. Mount Airy Online Casino has the unique privilege of being the official partner of PokerStars in Pennsylvania. The website utilizes TSG’s casino and poker software, in conjunction with FoxBet Sports, to offer players a complete trinity of iGaming products. The end result is a comparably smaller selection of 80+ RNG and live dealer casino games, but access to the brand’s world-renowned poker room (minus the international player base, of course). Owned and operated by the legendary Churchill Downs, the Presque Isle Downs & Casino near Erie, PA expanded into online gaming in early 2020 via BetAmerica. The browser-only BetAmerica platform hasn’t exactly received rave reviews. In fact, it’s been operating as the state’s bottom-of-the-barrel iGaming destination since launch. Churchill Downs is looking to change that with a rebranding campaign that will soon see BetAmerica become TwinSpires. Once it does, the platform will feature all the standard features of a modern-day online gaming brand, including a much-needed mobile app. Until then, the BetAmerica website offers online casino games and a complete sportsbook / racebook wagering platform.
