In 2001, Universal Pictures released The Fast and The Furious, a film that would become so popular, it triggered a series of spin-offs that continue to hit theaters to this day. The latest sequel – the 8th in the series thus far – is Hobbs and Shaw, was released in August. Production is well underway on a Fast & Furious 9, coming in 2020, with plans for a part 10 to be released in 2021.

The popularity of this Hollywood franchise is unparalleled, attracting the undivided attention of dramatic car racing enthusiasts the world over. I have no doubt the software gurus at Quickspin would have loved to get ink on a contract with Universal to reproduce any one of the F&F films as a slot machine. But since that didn’t happen, they’ve done the next best thing. They call it… Wild Chase: Tokyo Go!

Wild Chase Tokyo Go Slot Review

Quickspin’s newest digital slot production is an obvious (but not unappreciated) mimicry of the third film in the F&F franchise, Tokyo Drift. It’s all about fast cars, fast money, jewelry heists, and the elite crew’s high-octane race to outrun the long arm of the law.

Wild Chase: Tokyo Go Slot Review

The drivers are the high-paying symbols, featuring a sexy suit, red-headed seductress, mysterious masked vixen, and the determined motorcycle policewoman in hot pursuit. Low-paying symbols include bars of gold, bags of diamonds, gold watches, diamond rings and bottles of champagne. The Wild Chase logo is the wild.

The “furious” side of the game is the way the reels are set up. It’s not the typical 5×3 alignment. The base game starts with a reel-set that spans 3x3x4x4x5. Being an all-ways slot machine, that initial setup offers 76 ways to win. The reels, and the all-ways pays, expand with each consecutive win – part of the game’s main feature.

Respin & Super Respin Features

Every time a player lines up a winning combination, it awards a free respin of the reels (after paying the original win amount). Before the reels respin, they will expand, growing up to 3x4x4x5x5 with 90 ways to win on the first respin, 4x4x5x5x5 with 154 ways on the second respin, 4x5x5x5x5 with 164 ways on the third, and 5x5x5x5x5 with 259 ways on the fourth.

Wild Chase Ways to Win Respins Feature

Wins must be consecutive to trigger each progressive respin. If any respin doesn’t result in a win, the games resets back to the base game. If the player wins on the fourth consecutive respin, it triggers the game’s most admirable feature, the Super Respin.

Once the Super Respin feature is activated, all winning symbols remain in place on the full 5×5 reel grid. The game will respin repeatedly until there no additional winning symbols appear. Winnings are paid after every Super Respin.

Is it Worth Taking for a Spin?

Quickspin’s new Wild Chase Tokyo Go Slot may be lacking in the feature department, but I have to admit, it’s a fun game, and not without its redeeming qualities. It’s nowhere near as action-packed as the movies it’s indirectly promoting, but it’s a high-energy game. It comes with a medium to high volatility and an RTP of 96.54%, on par with the industry standard.
