How do you Know if Online Gambling is Right for You?

Is online gambling right for me?

Is Gambling Online Right for Me? Ask yourself these 5 QuestionsThis is a question many people have asked themselves. Some choose to do it, and some don’t. Others choose to gamble online, only to find out it wasn’t the right choice, one way or another. The fact is, some people find gambling to be a stress-relieving form of entertainment, while others fall victim to the loss of more money than they can afford, if not full-blown addictive behavior.

Our aim today is to help people decide whether online gambling is the right choice. We do this by presenting you with five very simple questions, and a brief explanation as to why these topics matter.

Is Online Gambling Right for Me?

If you’re stuck at this crossroad, please take a moment to think very carefully about each of these questions. Our goal is not to sway you in either direction, but to help you make the best decision on your own. So without further ado…

#1 Can you enjoy playing games even if you lose money?

As simple as this question seems, it’s very important. Gambling comes with risks. There are no guarantees you’ll win money. It is possible, yes, but the odds aren’t in your favor. If you lose, will the entertainment experience be enough that you can still walk away happy? If the thought of losing money frightens you more than the thought of playing excites you, a different pastime might be in order.

#2 Is gambling something you’ll find enjoyable?

Expanding on that last question, are there any forms of gambling you truly believe you’ll enjoy? Some love spinning the slots reels, while other find it monotonous. Playing blackjack requires mentally-draining strategies to win with any consistency. Is there a particular sport you enjoy enough to put action on the games? Are you an avid poker player? Think about whether these types of games suit your personality. If not, investing in board games or video games—the type that come with a one-time cost—might be more suitable.

#3 Can you afford to gamble?

Gambling requires setting aside a budget for wagering. Do you have the extra funds on hand to put towards it? If money is tight, online gambling is not the right choice. One should never, ever gamble in hopes of winning enough money to cover loose ends.

#4 How will your friends/family feel about it?

Some people feel gambling is a bad habit, no matter how responsibly someone goes about it. It’s no one’s business how a person spends their money, so long as it’s not harming anyone. But if you feel that someone close you will not approve, how will this impact you, and your relationship with them? Will you feel shame, or the need to hide it? Consider whether gambling might cause turmoil in a relationship, and if so, whether it’s worth it.

#5 Do you have a responsible or addictive personality?

You’re really going to have to dig deep to answer this question honestly. Put aside your ego and ask yourself how responsible you really are. Do you keep a schedule? Do you have a strong work ethic? Are all of your bills paid on time? If you want an item you can’t afford yet, do you cut corners elsewhere to buy it now, or patiently save up the money to buy it?

This may be the most important question of all. If you don’t feel you can be a responsible gambler, don’t do it. Statistics show that 1-3% of all gamblers are at risk of addiction. If you have an addictive personality—the type that finds something they like and does it constantly until they get bored—be cautious. It’s not worth becoming a statistic.

After answering all of these questions, you should be able to confidently answer the original question—is online gambling right for me? If the answer is yes, great—enjoy! If not, that’s okay, too. Accept it and move on to a more enjoyable and productive pastime.
