The Ontarian Guidebook to LeoVegas Casino (May 2023)

Leo Vegas Ontario – A Bare-Bones Review of a Mobile Casino Juggernaut

The Ontarian iGaming market has exploded with operators in the last year. A handful of those operators are universally recognizable, but few so much as Leo Vegas. Maybe it’s the name – short, catchy, commercially transparent. Perhaps it’s the superfluous efforts of an expert marketing team. More likely than not, it’s the casino’s steadfast focus on prevailing technologies.

Since its inception, Leo Vegas has made every effort to provide players with the games they want, in the formats they want, on a platform that consistently meets the rigorous demand of ever-evolving technology. That’s not to say Leo Vegas is perfect. In this industry, perfection is impossible. None can meet the expectations of every player, since everyone has different tastes.

Our aim today is to dig up every bit of relevant data on the Ontario-licensed versions of Leo Vegas. From software, games, and mobile optimization, to payment options and support reliability, we cover it all. And we will keep covering it as the online casino inevitably grows, month by month, year by year, in this…

Bare-Bones Review of Leo Vegas Ontario

Last Updated – May 2023

Leo Vegas Ontario Mobile Casino & sportsbookThis isn’t your average, run-of-the-mill casino review. Our team of editors consists of real players, several of which reside right here in Ontario. We offer an insider’s perspective from those who actually play the games, use the payment options, and if/when necessary, contact customer support.

Being so familiar with the subject matter, we are able to provide in-depth details most reviews miss. For this reason, we thought it appropriate to arrange a table of contents. This should help our readers find exactly what they’re looking for, without experiencing a TL;DR moment.

One final thought before we proceed – If you’re truly interested in Leo Vegas Casino and all it has to offer, please bookmark this page. We intend to develop an encyclopedic text that will grow alongside the evolution of the brand’s presence in Ontario.

Table of Contents

Origins – History of LeoVegas In Brief

LeoVegas hit the scene in 2011, and by 2012, was recognized as the fastest growing online casino in existence. That rapid growth came from its creators’ bold decision to be a ‘mobile first’ operator. Smartphones weren’t exactly mainstream back then, but their vision was crystal clear. They knew mobile gambling was the future.

LeoVegas didn’t just embrace the digital landscape, they harnessed it, slapped it on the ass, and shot forth like a lightning bolt! One award after another came their way. The casino platform grew as quickly as its customer base. Before long, the operator was boasting content deals with more game suppliers than any competitor.

Everything about it, from its brand name to its astute mascot, was cleverly crafted and marketed for success. Long story short, LeoVegas Mobile Casino (and Sportsbook, as of 2016) is one of the brightest trailblazers ever to enter the iGaming industry.

Primary Features (Pros & Cons)

As with all things in life, with the good comes the bad. In the case of LeoVegas, there is a lot more good than bad, but inevitably, both sides of the coin exist. In this section, we take you on a quick tour of all the areas where LeoVegas does and does not shine. Each of these are features that could potentially impact your appreciation for the brand.
Hits (a.k.a. All the Good Stuff)
  • Supports all major gaming verticals; Casino, Live Casino, Sports, and eSports.
  • Carries an impressive reputation for customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains a best-in-class mobile gaming platform.
  • Offers an exceptional range of casino games, 1,000+.
  • 100+ live dealer casino table games, card games, and game shows.
  • Customer support is very friendly and eager to help.
  • Partners with the top casino suppliers in the world.
  • Payment options include Interac.
Misses (a.k.a. Definite Room for Improvement)
  • The sportsbook falls short of pro-bettor expectations.
  • Not much in the way of progressive jackpot slots.
  • Help Centre (FAQ) could be a lot more thorough.
  • Just one deposit option (Interac).
  • Numerous complaints about errors within the mobile app.

Software – Technology, Platform, Optimization

Here, we take a close look at what powers LeoVegas Casino; what’s under the hood, so to speak. We already know the brand’s level of committment to keeping up with the technological times. In this section, we further detail how LeoVegas does it, and the impact on overall brand growth in Ontario, starting with…

Overview of LeoVegas Casino Software

Since the dawn of its operation, LeoVegas has made clear its committment to providing the highest quantity of casino games. While that same goal is apparent in its Ontario-facing casino, it’s much more restrictive overall. That’s partly because Ontario’s market is smaller, but mostly because the regulator needs to approve all games from all software vendors. In comparison to global regulators, Ontario can be a lot more strict.

That’s not to say Ontarians aren’t privy to a lot of games. LeoVegas has more than 1,000 titles on its casino games menu. This includes over 800 slot machines alone, plus a variety of the most popular RNG and live dealer tables games.

One area that is severely lacking, in our opinion (and is noted in the Cons column above) is a shortage of progressive jackpots. LeoVegas employs Microgaming software, but offers none of its world-famous Mega Moolah jackpot slots on its Ontario website. It’s not a choice, but a mandate and again, we have provincial regulations to thank for it.

Optimization and Compatibility with Desktop and Mobile

As we’ve mentioned more than once already, LeoVegas’s committment to mobile-first optimization is known far and wide. the operator takes every measure, following every advance in technology, to ensure mobile users get the best possible experience. That’s not to say desktop users are left behind, though.

When it comes to omni-channel compatibility, HTML5 is the name of the game. HTML5 is a computer mark-up language that simplifies programming, especially for gaming content. It represents a universal programing language supported by (almost) all operating systems and browsers, on desktop and mobile.

In short, you can log in and launch any LeoVegas casino game on a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet, whether it’s powered by Windows, Android, or Apple iOS, and it will always look, sound and feel the same.

Get the LeoVegas Mobile App Ontario (or not?)

If you prefer an out-of-browser experience, you’re welcome to download the LeoVegas Mobile App. It’s available on the Apple Store and Google Play Store. However, we’ve noticed a lot of complaints coming in through both of those mediums in relation to LeoVegas Ontario.

Complaints tend to circle around two main topics (and their proposed solutions):

  • App crashes with error message (close and restart the app);
  • Location service denies access (in settings, allow location while app is in use).

We understand that it’s easy enough to close and restart an app, but when it’s happening on a regular basis, it can get pretty annoying. Not all of our team members experienced this, though.

In the last few months, it has happened to two of our editors. The first only experienced the issue two times. After that, he powered his phone off and back on, and the problem seems to have gone away. However, our other editor was unable to resolve the issue. She decided it’s much easier to play in a mobile browser.  So there’s some food for thought, should you run into problems with the app.

Available Payment Methods

There’s good and bad news in this area, depending on your point of view. The good news is Ontario’s favorite payment method is supported – that being Interac. The bad news is there isn’t much else. Before we get into that, let’s look at how LeoVegas handles your money.

Payment Speed, Reliability and Security

With 10+ years of experience, you can rest assured your money is safe with Leo Vegas. All payments are processed with state-of-the-art security measures, including 128-bit SSL data encryption. As for speed, deposits are always quick, and cashouts appear within 1-3 business days.

Deposit Options

Interac is the only available payment method for Ontario iGamers. That’s a tick in the negative column. But if there is only going to be one option, you can’t find a better one.

Developed by the Big Five in 1984, Interac is the number one digital payment method across all of Canada. It is supported by every financial institution (including credit unions) with an online banking system. Your direct deposit paychecks, your debit card purchases, your online bill payments – that’s all Interac.

Withdrawals Options

For withdrawals, there are just these two options. They’re good options, but most Canadians are reduced to just one. According to LeoVegas, most Canadian banks (including most of the Big Five brands) will not accept fund transfers direct from any online gambling site, despite Ontario regulations.

We haven’t experienced this problem with other iGaming websites, but LeoVegas is is adamant that it’s not possible. Therefore, Canadians whose financial institution appears on the list below cannot withdraw funds via bank transfer.

If you belong to one of the banks on this list, you will need to use eCashout to withdraw your winnings from Leo Vegas. For the record, this list was provided by Leo Vegas customer support (April 2023).

Banks that do not Accept Funds Direct from LeoVegas:
  • CIBC
  • Connexus
  • RBC
  • Santander
  • Scotia Bank
  • Tangerine Bank
  • TD Canada Trust

The good news is that, should your bank appear on the list above, eCashout payments are quick, safe and reliable. Facilitated by Gigadat Express Connect, eCashouts are free and absolutely everyone with a Canadian bank account can use them.

What to Expect with eCashout

When requesting an eChasout, you need to provide your banking details. These include the bank’s transit number, institution number, and your bank account number. If you’re not sure what these numbers are, you can find them on a paper cheque, by logging into your online banking account, or by simply calling your bank and asking for them.

eChasout payments are processed via Automated Clearing House, or ACH for short. They are essentially the same as direct deposits. The time it takes to receive one depends on two things; 1) how fast LeoVegas processes the withdrawal; and 2) how quickly your bank processing the transfer. Realistically, it could take anywhere from 10 minutes up to 5 business days. The average, however, is less than 24 hours.

Customer Self-Help and Technical Support

Customer support is crucial to a good overall experience with any online gambling operation. We hope we never need it, but if we do, its quality will inevitably make or break the experience. For the most part, we believe LeoVegas excels in this department.

The one area where this operator lacks is its FAQ section (a.k.a. Help Centre). We find the information to be lacking and/or inconsistent. For example, the payment methods listed here are not the payment methods actually available to Ontario bettors. (See Payment Methods section above).

In a global market, inconsistency is to be expected. Every jurisdiction has different rules, including those that govern payment method availability. But when a website is ring-fenced to one jurisdiction, as LeoVegas-ON is to Ontario, there is no good reason for it. The information on the Help Centre should be true, consistent, and a lot more thorough.

The good new is that when you do contact support, they really know their stuff.

Speed, Quality & Professionalism

The support crew is of the utmost quality. We’ve experienced nothing but genuine friendliness and professional behavior in this department. If responses are copy/paste (as I’m sure they are), they don’t feel like it. And to keep the service in tip-top shape, users are encouraged to give feedback on their support experience as well.

As for speed, it really depends on how you contact them. Live chat is the fastest medium, of course. You’ll be connected with a representative in a few seconds. Using the Contact form on the Help Centre (i.e. email support) take quite a bit longer.

We tested this method to see how the casino would respond to a query about the payment methods on tap (knowing full well that the FAQ page was incorrect). The email went out at 1pm (ET) on a Thursday. Frist came the instant auto-responder to let us know our help ticket had been received. A real response came on Friday just after 4pm (27 hours later).

That’s not too bad for email support these day, considering the usual ’24-48 hour’ response time. We got a straight forward and detailed response, with additional information the average user wouldn’t have thought to ask about. Two thumbs up for that!

Here’s a copy of our query, from site editor Dave, followed by the response from LeoVegas support rep, Kathleen. I’ve provided the response as a screenshot photo for authenticity.

DBC Dave’s Communication with LeoVegas Support

Dave:

Hi, I was hoping you could provide me with a complete list of deposit and withdrawal options for players in Ontario. Your website has inconsistent information. The Help Centre only lists Visa, MasterCard, Neosurf, Interact, and Instant Bank Transfer, while other parts of your website indicate additional options like iDebit and MuchBetter. Can you clarify this for me? Thank you in advance!

Customer Support Channels

There are three ways to get help from LeoVegas in Ontario. They include:

Help Centre: The Help Centre is essentially LeoVegas’s FAQ page. It’s got answers to a lot of common questions. It can be very useful for some things, but it lacks depth and consistency. If you don’t find your answer here, try one of these instead.

Live Chat: The fastest mode of support is live chat. You can find it on the website by navigating to Support, then pressing Contact Us. This brings up a little window to type your question.  Once you press the button, you’ll get to choose ‘Live Chat‘ to speak to a representative immediately, or ‘Leave a Message‘ to ask your query via email.

Email Support: This method is good if you don’t need an immediate response, or don’t have time to chat with a support rep right away. You can navigate to Support > Contact Us, then Leave a Message, or simply write an email to this address: support-on@leovegas.com

Range of RNG Casino Games at LeoVegas ON

One of the most important features of any online casino is its games menu. Most of us can appreciate the old adage promoting quality over quantity. In Leo Vegas’s case, it happens to be a mixture of both. LeoVegas boasts a wide variety of games – by our count, well over 1,000. The operator partners with some of the most decorated software suppliers, ensuring utmost quality.

Our editors scour the furthest recesses, the darkest shadows of the LeoVegas games vault. Below is a complete list of each and every game available, current as of our latest update.

LeoVegas Sportsbook Ontario

From the onset, LeoVegas has been a first-and-foremost mobile casino. The addition of a sportsbook was a necessary move to coincide with betting trends, especially in Canada where single-event sports betting was recently legalized. But the casino remains its primary asset and focus, and it’s evident in the odds on most straight up bets.

Sports Bets & Odds Overview

All the major sports are covered, with the usual moneylines, spreads, and an abundance of props. You can use the Bet Builder feature to develop same game accumulators (parlays), particularly handy for aficionados with a keen eye for prominent athletes / teams.

LeoVegas also covers a lot of eSports competitions, with tons of  In short, its not a bad option, but if sports betting is all you log on for, you can probably do better.

Live Betting at Leo Vegas

The sportsbook is very well designed for live betting fans. Users can browse by most popular events or specific sports to view any action that’s currently underway. Odds are constantly updating on live events, offering hundreds of ways to get in the game. As an added perk, you can take advantage of live sports streams to follow the action as it happens.

  • Call of Duty

  • Valorant

Summary of Ontario LeoVegas Casino & Sports

On the whole, Ontario’s Leo Vegas Casino and Sportsbook has a lot of good qualities. They’ve been around for more than 10 years and have a great reputation for satisfying customers. For mobile casino gamers especially, there’s no better choice. The range of slots, tables and live dealers is exceptional.

On the downside, some niche gaming options like craps and video poker are not even present. And the fact that Ontarians have so few options in the banking department is disappointing. But, if there’s going to be just one way to fund an account, Interac is certainly the one to go with.

Sports bettors of any experience level will appreciate the user-friendly platform. Navigating the events menu and bet slip is simple, and the number of bets available is impressive. LeoVegas Sports offers odds on all the top eSports and a few specialties, like television, politics and other novelties. However, you may find more appealing odds elsewhere; a turn-off for serious punters.

The promotional aspect is great. But we can’t tell you about that, except to say that promotions do exist. To detail them would violate Ontario’s strict regulatory guidelines, and we don’t want to do that! So, if you want to learn more about those, you’ll just have to visit Leo Vegas Ontario for yourself and see what’s avialable.
