3-5-7 Poker Rules and Pay Table

Gambling 101: Learn how to play 3-5-7 Poker.

Learn How to Play 3-5-7 Poker (Table Game and Video Poker editions)Every casino with tables on the gaming floor is going to offer you a basic variety of action. Blackjack and Roulette are most common. Baccarat and Craps are close behind. Beyond that, if the casino is large enough to accommodate, you can expect games like 3 Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Caribbean or Mississippi Stud, Texas Holdem Bonus Poker, and the like.

In the largest casinos, you may encounter a live table game called 3-5-7 Poker. Some smaller casinos offer it this as a 3-5-7 Video Poker variant. Either way, the rules and pay tables remain the same. Chances are, if you’re looking at this page now, you’ve seen the game available somewhere and are interested in learning more. The following is a summary of 3-5-7 Poker rules, pays and odds.

How to Play 3-5-7 Poker

This game is unique because it’s actually 3 poker games in one. Think of it as an amalgamation of 3 Card Poker, 5-Card Stud, and Texas Holdem. Players are actually competing in up to three hands at once—a 3-card hand, 5-card hand and 7-card hand; hence the name, 3-5-7.

Players are required to play the first two hands—the 3-card and 5-card variety. Playing the third, 7-card hand, is optional. Each hand requires a separate bet, each of which can be placed at variable sizes according to the min/max stakes of the game. For instance, at $5-$500 table stakes, one could place a $10 bet on the 3-card hand, $5 bet on the 5-card, and $20 bet on the 7-card hand. According to the house edge, this isn’t a bad idea. More on that in a moment (See 3-5-7 Poker House Edge below).

The game begins with the player betting on two or three hands. The dealer will then deal three cards to each player, and 4 cards face down as community cards.

Evaluating The Hands…

3-Card Hand: First, the 3-card hand is evaluated. The first three cards dealt to the player are examined. If they qualify for a payout, the bet is paid. If not, the player loses and the bet is collected. (See 3-5-7 Pay Tables below.)

5-Card Hand: Next, the first two community cards are turned face up. The player combines their first three cards with these two cards for a 5-card hand. If the hand qualifies for a payout, the bet is paid. If not, the player loses and the bet is collected. (See 3-5-7 Pay Tables below.)

7-Card Hand: The last two community cards are turned ace up. Using all 7 cards now available, the best 5-card poker hand is made. If it qualifies for a payout, the bet is paid. If not, the player loses and the bet is collected. (See 3-5-7 Pay Tables below.)

3-5-7 Poker House Edge

Now that you know how to play 3-5-7 Poker, consider carefully whether you should. The house edge is pretty bad. And there’s a reason the 3-card and 5-card bets are mandatory, and the 7-card bet optional. That last one has the best odds of winning. The casino is hoping you’ll pass on it to conserve your bankroll.

The house edge on each hand is as follows:

3-Card House Edge = 3.49%
5-Card House Edge = 4.12%
7-Card House Edge = 3.28%

Strategically speaking, you could play a lot of better games, like blackjack with basic strategy, or even European Roulette. If you really want to give this unique poker variant a try, do it the right way, placing all three bets. Place the smallest possible bet on the 5-card hand, since it has the worst odds, and the highest bet on the 7-card hand.
