Can Nootropic Teas Improve Your Poker Game?

In recent years, herbal tea has become the new poker player’s best friend. Find out how and which nootropic teas have the natural ability to make you a better poker player.

Best Tea for Poker Players

Holistic NoologyHerbal tea is the new poker player’s best friend.

Throughout the ages, we’ve known that certain types of tea can have a positive effect on the human body. Generation after generation has handed down the homeopathic remedies of chamomile tea; known for its holistic calming agents. Although a great stress reliever, I would never recommend this tea for poker players, though, as it’s best known as a sleeping aid.

But there are several herbal teas poker players can benefit from. In fact, some nootropic teas are highly recommended by new-age doctorates as the perfect alternative to coffee and energy drinks. Those beverages are high in caffeine and sugar, both of which can have adverse effects on cognitive thinking.

In the following segment, you’ll learn about a number of herbal teas that promote better brain function, cognitive thinking and enhanced memory skills. Remember, though, that too much of a good thing is usually a bad thing. Don’t go ingesting superfluous amounts of tea in hopes that you’ll become the best poker player in the world. All this will get you is countless trips to the little girls’ or boys’ room.

Green Tea Benefits: Stress, Alertness and Brain Function

Countless studies have been performed over the years on the positive effects of green tea. In 2017, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) reviewed many studies to evaluate congruency in their findings. They conclude that:

…green tea influences psychopathological symptoms (e.g. reduction of anxiety), cognition (e.g. benefits in memory and attention) and brain function (e.g. activation of working memory seen in functional MRI).

However, green tea also contains, on average, 35mg of caffeine per 8oz cup, so you should not consumer it in large quantities.

Gotu Kola Tea Benefits: Stress, Memory, Intellect

Gotu kola contains natural chemicals that can decrease blood pressure and inflammation, and promote the production of collagen. For poker players, it can have a multitude of benefits, not just on a player’s overall health, but their ability to absorb information at the tables.

The Mayo Clinic suggests that drinking gotu kola tea has countless benefits. It can help fight a range of infectious diseases, as well as “fatigue, anxiety, depression, psychiatric disorders, Alzheimer’s disease,” while helping to improve “memory and intelligence”.

Rosemary Tea Benefits: Memory and Concentration

Scientists believe the antioxidants in rosemary improve circulation and digestion, boost the immune system, and increase concentration and memory. Poker players may get the best benefits from rosemary tea; not necessarily by drinking it, but simply breathing in its aromatic scent.

Research reviewed by Medical News Today indicates:

the aroma from rosemary can improve a person’s concentration, performance, speed, and accuracy and, to a lesser extent, their mood.

Gingko Biloba Benefits: Memory

Available as a supplement or tea, studies on the effects of gingko biloba have tied the antioxidant with better memory skills. Most studies revolve around Alzheimer’s and dementia, with the goal of preventing or reducing memory loss. Based on some results, gingko biloba tea is only recommended for younger poker players, as it may increase the risk of stroke in older individuals.
