IGC Approved: Indiana Licensed Online and Mobile Sportsbooks
Times are rapidly changing across the American gaming community. 2018 marked the pivotal turning point, when the US government overturned a decades old law that prohibited wagers on sporting events in all states but Nevada. Since then, any state has had the right to authorize sports gambling. Indiana is among the earliest adopter of such laws.
Lawmakers in The Hoosier State chose to legalize sportsbooks at existing gaming properties, as well as offering licenses for the operation of online and mobile sports betting operations. In order to conduct an online sportsbook, operators are required to team up with land-based gaming licensees.
The first internet sportsbooks went live in October 2019, one month after land-based operators took their first wagers. Since then, Indiana has welcomed a grand total of 25 sportsbook operations; 15 on land, and 10 more online.
IN Licensed Mobile Sports Betting Operators
|
When state officials were debating the possibility of an online sports gambling market in 2018, it was estimated that 57% of aggregate revenue would come from the mobile betting sector, increasing to 67% by year five. They had no idea the dire circumstances that would arise come 2020. While there are currently no statistics to draw from, it’s safe to say the online and mobile market is vastly outperforming early forecasts.
With this in mind, we’ve compiled a detailed list of all sportsbooks authorized by the Indiana Gaming Commission to operate over the internet. We’ve included the owner/operator info for each website, date of license approval, and a brief description. You can choose any operator from the list below to jump directly to its data segment.

BetAmerica IN Sports
|
Indiana’s Rising Star Casino teamed up with the digital arm of one of the oldest gaming companies in the country, Churchill Down Interactive Gaming, to launch BetAmerica Sportsbook. Although it wasn’t one of the first betting sites to launch, it seemed a little rushed; almost as if the company pushed the launch to get its product on the market before 2020. BetAmerica went live in Indiana on December 30, 2019, with a modest line-up of just a dozen sports lines to choose from. It may appeal to those seeking the most popular athletics, but for serious sports fans, it may not be enough to satiate their betting appetite. The biggest problem – a gaping hole in their product, in our opinion – is the lack of a mobile betting app. BetAmerica is only available in-browser.

BetMGM Sportsbook
|
BetMGM is, of course, the digital wings of the universally renowned MGM Resorts. Similar to its land-based operations, MGM has made a point to dip its toes into almost every state where gambling is authorized. While BetMGM was a few months late to the party, they made sure to provide a good range of sports, enticing promotions, and a well-rounded desktop/mobile offering. The overall design is a bit bland, but the website and app are straight forward and easy to navigate.

BetRivers Sports IN
|
When online sports betting was legalized, Indiana’s famous French Lick Casino immediately sought partnership with Rush Street Interactive, the most experienced, real-money virtual sports operator headquartered on US soil. The name, BetRivers, comes from the company’s multi-state Rivers Casino properties. Their most famous sister-site, however, is PlaySugarHouse, which originally entered the New Jersey market in 2016, and launched the first legal US sports betting website in 2018, almost the very moment NJ made it legal to do so.
BetRivers Indiana is expected to uphold that same level of quality-on-demand. It’s license was the first to be approved by the IGC, and the website was one of two to go live on the earliest possible launch date. BetRivers Sports offers one of the state’s largest selections of sports lines, and the only 100% matching deposit bonus to come with a mere 1x wagering requirements.

Caesars Online Sportsbook
|
The name Caesars is synonymous with Las Vegas gambling. The company is piggy-backing off its own Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN, and employing its in-house software from Caesars Interactive Entertainment. Revenue wise, that’s great for the parent company, but could put a damper in things for Indiana’s sports fans. Caesars doesn’t have a lot of experience in real money iGaming, and it shows. It took them nine months to launch the website after receiving a license on day one. In all that time, they only managed to implant 10 types of sports on the betting menu. It appears Caesars is choosing to cater to casual bettors only.

DraftKings IN Sports
|
Every sports fan knows DraftKings as one of the premier producers of US daily fantasy sports. When Indiana legalized DFS a few years back, DraftKings was quick to apply for a license. It’s no surprise they would extend that license to traditional sports betting. They were, in fact, one of two operators to launch on the first eligible day in Indiana (the other being IN BetRivers Sports). Brand familiarity isn’t the only thing on their side. iGamers in The Hoosier State should also appreciate DraftKing’s provision of the largest selection of athletics events to bet on.

FanDuel IN Sports
|
FanDuel is Indiana’s other major daily fantasy sports operator, having launched a licensed DFS app in the state several years back. Like DraftKings, FanDuel wasted no time finding a land-based casino partner to extend its offering to legal sports betting. The company received a vendors license on day one, and has been open for betting since late October 2019. It is one of just two IGC licensed operators to offer both traditional and fantasy sports betting.

PointsBet Idiana
|
PointsBet is a relatively new brand, established in Australia in 2017, and chaired by former TabCorp director Brett Paton. The company spread to the American market with the launch of PointsBet NJ in 2019, and have since spread to Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. The company partnered with Hollywood Casino, and went live in March 2020, boasting the second largest variety of sports lines in the state. They also list ‘Entertainment’ as a betting option, but to date, we’ve found no published odds for this category. On the negative end, they offer the lowest number of payment options, omitting credit/debit card eligibility altogether (likely due to the minimal acceptance rate).

theScore Bet IN
|
This operator is certainly getting its name out there into the US sports betting market, but that’s about all they’ve done in Indiana. If they’re not careful, the mere footprint they’ve stamped in the sand will be washed away soon enough. As they’ve done in other authorized states, theScore Bet provides its betting services via mobile app only (no in-browser betting). Unfortunately, the Indiana betting app lacks luster. It has very few features, and even fewer sports categories to bet on. If you’re not looking for baseball, basketball, football, hockey or soccer, you’ll be disappointed.

Unibet Sportsbook
|
Unibet is a famous brand with years of experience in international markets, but very little in the U.S. It’s first venture in America was the September 2019 launch of Unibet in New Jersey, and they haven’t exactly cornered that market, despite partnering with the universally renowned Hard Rocket Hotel & Casino. Here in Indiana, Unibet is aligned with Caesars Entertainment’s Horseshoe Hammond, but another late launch (July 2020) may keep the brand from reaching full potential.

William Hill Sports
|
William Hill is another international brand, but one most sports bettors all over the world are familiar with. they’ve joined forces with another common name in the casino business, Tropicana, going to market in late October 2019. They have a generous welcome package that can double or triple a players first deposit with free bets, but one of the smallest ranged of sports lines to place those free bets on. Only the most popular sports are offered; something we found oddly disappointing considering the brand’s 85+ years in the sports betting industry.
