How “Fun” is it? Super Fun 21 Rules & Strategy

Learn how to play Super Fun 21, a high-edge blackjack game that may be more fun for casinos than players.

How to Play Super Fun 21: Is it More Fun for Players or Casinos?

Super Fun 21 is a blackjack variant found at a lot of land-based casinos, and a few online ones, too. The first question most people ask – if they bother to ask at all – is what makes the game so super fun? Not too much, to be honest. The only real fun to be had here is by any casino that offers it, thanks to some less-than-friendly rules.

Those rules are static no matter where you find it, with only one exception – the number of decks in the shoe. Super Fun 21 can be found in single-deck, double-deck and six-deck editions. As a matter of probabilities, the more decks there are, the higher the house edge will be. But again, the casino has a huge advantage in this game, regardless of shoe size.

Super High-Edge 21? RTP by Decks

Before I go into how the game is played, let’s take a quick look at the returns by number of decks in use. You may decide you want to avoid these tables altogether. If not, please continue scrolling to learn the complete rules and a very thorough strategy for all deck sizes and hand situations.

  • 1 Deck = 98.84% RTP (1.16% house edge)
  • 2 Decks = 98.70% RTP (1.30% house edge)
  • 6 Decks = 98.60% RTP (1.40% house edge)

How to Play Super Fun 21

Let’s dive straight in here, because overall, this is just your standard game of blackjack. There are some player-friendly rules in the mix, and one very unfriendly rule to offset them.

To the player’s favor are limited 5-Card 21 and 6-Card 20 auto-wins. On the negative end is the payout for a natural blackjack. A blackjack in diamonds (both cards) pays 2 to 1, which is better than the usual 3 to 2. However, a blackjack in any other suit(s) will pay only 1 to 1, even money.

The exact rules are as follows:

Specific Rules of Play

  • Decks: 1, 2 or 6
  • Soft 17: Dealer Hits
  • Doubling: Yes, on any number or value of cards
  • Splitting: Yes, up to 3x (4 hands)
  • Double after Split: Yes
  • Draw to Split Aces: Yes
  • Double to Split Aces: Yes
  • Double Down Rescue: Yes
  • Late Surrender: Yes, on any number of cards
  • Dealer Checks for Blackjack: Yes
  • Tie for Blackjack: Player Wins
  • Blackjack Pays: 3 to 2
  • 5-Card 21: Player’s 5+ card total of exactly 21 wins 2 to 1
  • 6-Card ~20: Player’s 6-card total of 20 or below wins 1 to 1

Note that the charts for each deck-size come with a three-layer strategy by hand type (hard total, soft total, pairs), as well as transitioning strategies for hard or soft 3-card, 4-card and 5-card hands. Remember, the edge on this game is already high. In order to make the most of your experience, you’ll have to work for those 5-card bonus payouts and 6-card auto wins.
