Online Casino Verification Documents… Ugh!

The importance of providing verification documents at online casinos.

Online Casino Verification DocumentsModern technology has turned us into a very unique society. Computers, smartphones, the internet – they have changed our lives forever. We are not a people accustomed to waiting. We want what we want, and we want it now, with the least amount effort required on our part.

It sounds a bit childish when you put it that way, but it is the reality of our situation, nonetheless. The faster we can do things, the more things we can do, which cuts down on the time we have to do other things. Thus we don’t really have time for other things. Things like…

Online Casino Verification Documents

Verification Documents at Online CasinosOnline gambling can be a fun and exciting pastime, especially if you win some money along the way. But before you can get your hands on that money – before your very first withdrawal can be processed – you’ll have to provide some extra information.

The casinos call them “verification documents”. They are merely forms of identification that prove you are who you say you are. This is necessary for several reasons.

First of all, you certainly can’t play under someone else’s identity. That’s fraud, and is extremely illegal. You wouldn’t want someone else to play under your identity, right? And it’s the online casino’s job to ensure that’s not happening. Otherwise, they get in trouble with their regulators. It could cost them hefty fines, if not loss of licence.

Secondly, you must be eligible to play at the casino. There are obviously age restrictions – allowing minors to gamble is another big no-no for operators. They may have country restrictions, too. Not every online casino accepts Canadians. You may be able to trick a website into thinking you’re from somewhere else with a VPN, but when it comes time to cashout, if you’re in an off-limits region, they’re the ones that get in trouble with the regulators. And your reward for lying on the registration form? You don’t get paid.

So yes, those verification documents might be a pain in the you know what. But they are for your own protection as much as the casino’s. You’ll only have to submit them one time, so suck it up and get it done.

What Do They Want From Me?

It’s not quite as difficult as it may seem. There are several forms of identification that are accepted, and a few different ways you can deliver them. Commonly accepted forms of identification include:

  1. Proof of Identity: Photo ID / Driver’s Licence (must be government issued).
  2. Proof of Residency: Any utility bill will do. It must be no more than three months old, and must be addressed to you (showing the same name/address you provided when registering with the casino).
  3. Proof of Payment Method: If you deposited with a credit or debit card, you’ll need to provide a copy of this card, front and back. Most casinos don’t require the full info. Royal Vegas, for example, only requires the first 6 digits, and last 4 digits, of the card number. The rest, as well as the CVC code, can be blacked out. If you used another payment method, such as Skrill or eCheck, you shouldn’t need to provide proof of payment.

Submitting Verification Documents at Online Casinos

You can then deliver these documents to the casino in one of 3 ways:

  1. Upload: Take a clear picture of these with your phone, or scan them onto your computer. Log into your casino account and look in the cashier area for a link to Upload Verification Documents. Some casinos call it KYC (Know Your Customer). Follow the directions, upload the files, and press submit.
  2. Email: Contact customer support to make sure you’re sending the files to the correct email address. They may require a specific subject line in the email. Be sure to add your casino account ID into the text as well. Attach the verification documents and press send.
  3. Conventional Mail: This could take some time, but you can always make copies and send them to the casino through conventional mail. Again, contact customer support to make sure this is an option, and that you have the correct mailing address.

Note that if you’re scanning / uploading them as images, they must be in high-resolution (minimum 300 DPI). If the casino cannot clearly read it, they will require you to resubmit them. Take your time. Do it right the first time, and you’ll be all done with verification documents at online casinos.
